Special Parent Meeting Next Tues, Jan. 31 @ 6:30 pm - Mattress Sale & Band Cruise 2018 Info1/24/2017 Greetings from the Milton HS Bandroom! We will be having a special parent meeting next Tuesday night, January 31 at 6:30 pm in the bandroom. The purpose for the meeting is two-fold. First, we will kick-off our next fundraiser which is a one-day Mattress Sale that will take place on Saturday, February 18 in the MHS Cafeteria. The people from Custom Fundraising Solutions will present some information that will help us to “kick-start” a great fundraiser. Secondly, I will present information regarding next year’s Band Trip…the cruise! We need to get ahead of this trip because we have to book it so far in advance to get the ship and dates that we desire. I will be discussing trip deposits, payment time-frame, etc. I’d like to fill up the bandroom with parents so that we can get a great start for both of these events. See you on Tuesday night!

Hello All,
Congratulations to the students who performed with the All-County Honor Band on a wonderful concert this past Friday night! It always amazes me how students from all over different areas can come together for the purpose of creating music and do and perform together, doing an amazing job in the process. Speaking of honor bands, I would like to congratulate the students who made both the Troy SEUS Honor Band as well as the USM All-South Honor Band. These students will need to make your own arrangements for travel and hotel accommodations. Troy SEUS: Marisol Baduya - Clarinet Adeline Belova - Flute Mesa Fitzgerald - Euphonium Abigaille Flores - Flute/Piccolo Jennifer Herrera - French Horn Ciera Kass - Trumpet Sydney Moore - Frech Horn Sydney Mosely - Trumpet Amber Rolin - Alto Saxophone Sam Rowe - Alto Saxophone Alex Salter - Trombone Will Schork - French Horn USM All-South: Adeline Belova - Flute Marisol Baduya - Clarinet Sam Rowe - Alto Saxophone Gaven Wallace - Alto Saxophone Rachel Campbell - Tenor Saxophone Emily Gentry - Tenor Saxophone Ciera Kass - Trumpet Lauren Sauls - Trumpet Justin Scott - Trumpet Alyssa Turner - Trumpet Sage Michael - Trombone Austen Nation - Trombone Melissa Scott - Euphonium This Saturday kicks off the indoor competition season with the first show at Jay High School. This is a GUARD ONLY performance meaning that the percussion units will not be performing. I believe tickets for each competition are $8 to $10 and are sold at the door at each location. If you would like to see a full schedule of events for the indoor season along with performance times and dates, please click HERE. Our winterguard units will both be in performance this Saturday. I encourage everyone to come out to Jay HS to see the hard work of all of these students! See performance times below. Ms. Byrd will have a detailed itinerary for the students this week. As we are still early in the 2nd semester, we are noticing more students behind in the fair shares. Please look at your statements on charms or ask us and make sure your fair shares are up to date. Because the band trip was so early this year, we allowed the trip to be payed off first before fair share. Now we need to switch focus and start catching up on fair shares. We will have a few fundraisers to help out with these payments this semester. Don't forget that all fair shares must be payed in full before the end of the school year in May. This will be here before you know it. Also, we are in the very early planning stages for the cruise trip next year. You can start working now to make payments towards that trip but remember, ALL FAIR SHARES MUST BE UP TO DATE. Please make sure you look at the schedule carefully this week as we are now beginning the after school rehearsals for our concert groups. Also, please continue to bring in you gauntlets this week! I hope this email finds you doing well. There are just a few happenings at the band room this week. Before I talk about this week, I want to congratulate William Schork on an outstanding performance with the All-State Honor Band this past week in Tampa. Will represented Milton well and we are very proud of him. This biggest event this week is the All-County Honor band rehearsal this Friday at 7pm in the MHS auditorium. This concert is free and you do not want to miss it. The clinician (director) for the all-county band this year is Dan Wooten, the director of bands at Niceville High School. You can read all about Mr. Wooten if you would like by clicking HERE. I highly encourage all students to attend this concert as they will be performing some awesome music. The percussion and winterguards have been hard at rehearsals the past several weeks. There first competition is next Saturday at Jay high school. I am sure there will be a preview show before that. Please keep an eye on your email and calendar for an announcement of this preview show. The concert bands will begin their rehearsals next week. Concert band will be every monday, Symphonic band will be every Tuesday, and Panther band will be every Wednesday. Students, please make sure you attend ALL rehearsals as we rely on each and every one of you and these rehearsals are REQUIRED. The Jazz Band will have three after school rehearsals in February leading up to Jazz MPA. Finally, I would like to start checking in gauntlets this week. Please bring in your gauntlets this week as we will no longer be using them this year. Also, you should have already done so, but please return all marching band instruments. I will check those back out to you once we get closer to the spring concert. There are no birthdays this week. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!
It's a new year and it's looking to be another great one for the Mighty Black & Gold! I hope your holidays were relaxing and fun. Now it's time to get back in the swing of things. Luckily, it's a relatively easy start with not a whole lot this week. The biggest event this week is the start of the All-County Rehearsals. We will have a reading session at the first rehearsal this Tuesday. Attendance is, of course, required for those that made the All-County Band. If you did not make the band, you are welcome to observe the rehearsal if you would like. This will take place at the MHS band room. Will Schork along with Mr. Weaver and I will be away to the FMEA All-State conference this Wednesday through Saturday. While we are gone, the Concert and Symphonic bands will have a few guest conductors that you will be very very familiar with. We will talk more about this in class tomorrow. A Final thought, with each new year, we are presented with a chance to start fresh and new. I encourage you to set a goal for yourself for 2017. Not only set yourself a goal, but tell people about it so you can be held accountable and so you can hopefully get some encouragement to help you reach that goal. I promise you that if and when you accomplish your goal, you will have opened up so many more possibilities in your life and you will know that YOU can do anything! Here's to a fantastic 2017!
