Hello all,
Welcome to the busiest part of the marching season. There are A LOT of events taking place over the next several weeks. Please make sure you read through everything carefully and stay up to date. I have put the full schedule for this week as well as next week so you know exactly when and wear to be. Parents, we DESPERATLY need your help at the Blackwater Classic. If we do not fill all spots in the BPA concessions as well as the various other areas around campus, this event will not run smoothly and we may not be able to host this in the future. Thank you to all of the parents that have already signed up! Blackwater Classic Concession Sales - CLICK HERE to sign up or click the yellow helping hand symbol on the event on the calendar. If the link asks for a password, type miltonhsband Blackwater Classic Other areas - CLICK HERE to sign-up for an area during the event. These area range and scope around campus and have parents that have already been designated to be in charge with the exception of a couple areas. If the link asks for a password, type miltonhsband. We desperately need more equipment transporters along with trailers. BC Hospitality Room - Amongst the many aspects and areas we need help with for Blackwater Classic, we also need donations for the judges/directors hospitality room area. This is yet another great opportunity for parents to "plug in" to the MHS Band program. All you have to do is follow the link below and select the slot. Food must be dropped off to the culinary classroom by 11am on October 2nd. Again, without your help, this event will not run smoothly. Please do not put in your contact info on this website as we have found that someone was sending spam calls to individuals. https://www.perfectpotluck.com/meals.php?t=KTCC7886&v=6e88268acf The coordinator last name is Justice The password is 5771 Tuesday Rehearsal - Students, the rehearsal this Tuesday night will be in the football stadium. FBA Itinerary - We received the performance schedule for FBA yesterday. FBA is Saturday, October 9th at Ft. Walton Beach HS. MHS along with Pace HS homecomings are both that week. As such, we have both requested to perform early so students who plan to attend homecoming events will have that opportunity. Remember, there are no dances that are school sponsored this year so far. We will go over in more detail how that day will work with students. In the mean time, here is the itinerary for that day so far. 9:30am-10:30am - Rehearsal in the Stadium 11:30 - Depart for FWBHS 1pm - Arrive and unload 1:45 - Warm-up 2:30 - PERFORMANCE 3pm-7:30 - Watch Bands 7:45 - Depart for MHS 9:15 - Arrive MHS/Unload/Dismiss Pea River Classic - Just a reminder that because Choctaw HS had to cancel their competition, we have decided to attend the Pea River Classic at Elba HS in Alabama on Saturday, October 23rd. Good morning to everyone. I wanted to get everyone up to date on changes to our marching band competition schedule in October. We received word from the band director at Choctawhatchee HS Sunday night stating that they are having to cancel their contest due to the low number of bands that signed up. This contest was scheduled for Saturday, October 16th and would have been our final competition of the marching season. This has left a hole in our schedule for October, where we usually attend a max of 3 marching competitions/festivals. As a reminder, the Blackwater Classic, our home festival, is Saturday, October 2nd and FBA marching MPA is Saturday, October 9th.
We used a survey to gain student input as to how the band would like to move forward with a different competition possibility. After looking at that survey and talking with the band staff, we have decided to attend the Pea River Classic at Elba HS in Elba, Alabama on Saturday, October 23rd. For those that were in the marching band in 2019, this is the same competition that we attended for the final festival performance. We realize there may be some potential for previously scheduled events, however, we ask that all efforts are made so that all hands are on deck for this final competition of the marching season. With our performance on that date, we will be extending the rehearsal on Thursday, October 21st to 4pm-7pm. Just another reminder as well that on Tuesday, October 19th, we will be performing for all of the other Santa Rosa County HS bands at Gulf Breeze HS for the Exhibition showoff. We will not have rehearsal on that night. We will have a detailed schedule for that day as soon as we can. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you. Hello All,
FSU Game - I want to thank all of our students and parents who attended the FSU trip. Everyone had a blast and represented MHS well! Even thought the game ended how it ended, I hope all of you took some great things away from the whole experience. Senior Parents - We are in need of volunteers to help making the ribbons for all of the seniors for the Band Senior Night celebration. Nikki Johnson has volunteered to coordinate this committee. Please contact her at (850)686-5208 for any questions. This tradition began with the parents only a few years ago and has been a lovely way to celebrate our seniors. Please consider helping out in this celebration. Mrs. Johnson informed me that only one parent has reached out to her to help. We have 37 seniors this year. These parents will need more help. Seniors - Your scripts are due on Tuesday. See attached form. Senior parents will need to meet at the gate by the band section by 6:55. Seniors will be lined up in alphabetical order by last name. King MS Night - This Friday, we will also welcome our future Panthers from King MS. Call time for everyone will be 5:30pm in full uniform. All-State - This Saturday is the FBA All-State auditions hosted at MHS. I have posted the schedule on the locker room door for all of those auditioning. Good luck to all of you! I did receive late word from the FBA District Chairman about some changes to the format in which the directors will be recording these auditions. Because of this, I will be posting a new helper sign-up this week. He informed me that there won't be as much student needed. Thank you to those who signed up on the other list. Please look for this list by Tuesday. That is all for now. I hope all of you have a wonderful week! It is looking to be a well attended game and we need to make sure everything is smooth in that area. You can CLICK HERE to sign up directly or click the yellow helping hand symbol on the calendar. FSU Trip - The FSU Band Day trip is this Saturday. The itinerary is below. for any students not planning to attend this trip, please let us know ASAP. Remember, this trip is incorporated within the Fair Shares and is a replacement for the lock-in. Make sure you bring money for a meal at the mall and at the stadium concessions. Also, you might want to consider money for merch. We will be riding charter buses with plugs for each seat. Make sure you bring your phone chargers. Pillows and blankets are also a good idea. After watching the FSU game yesterday, it does not look like they are requiring masks for the games, however, if you would like to wear one, that is fine. All-State Help - Students, I will be posting a sign-up this week for help at the All-State Auditions. These auditions will be held at MHS next Saturday, September 18th. There are 2 shifts, 8am-1pm and 1pm-6pm , with several stations. You may sign up for both if you would like. The primary need is running the USB drives from rooms to the media center after each audition is recorded by the directors. You will get volunteer hours for this to help go towards scholarships. I will go over this more on Tuesday. Blackwater Classic - The Blackwater Classic is fast approaching on October 2nd. We will need lots of parent help to run various stations on that day. We will be posting sign ups online soon, however, please attend the BPA monthly meeting next Tuesday the 14th at 7pm for in-person sign-ups and discussions about the BC. Students will not be able to sign-up to help at this event as they will be watching and performing. That is all for now. I hope you have a wonderful week!
